Brain tissue from bovine-isolate infected mice showed elevated pro-inflammatory cytokines despite limited histologic lesions. Conclusion:A bovine clade 2.3.4.4b H5N1 isolate (genotype B3.13) demonstrates enhanced neuroinvasion and virulence in mice, supporting the use of C57BL/6J and BALB/c models for countermeasure testing and highlighting the need to monitor mammalian-adapted phenotypes.
