94: Get On Your Kids Level

from Dorothy and the Dealer Podcast · host Dorothy and the Dealer Podcast

Have you been struggling to connect with your kids? Like, these whole school holidays, no matter how hard you tried or how long you spent with them, you didn’t really feel like you were really ‘with’ them? You’re not going crazy - and you are not alone! Connection is hard to master, especially with young ones. But never fear - because on this episode of Dorothy and the Dealer, we are going to talk you through 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫 great tips to get you and your kids back in sync! True connection means being 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐓. Connection is not just about being physically there - you must be energetically there too.  So give them your undivided attention. Don’t watch tv, scroll your phone, or be stuck in the mindset of trying to escape the situation. Connection is different for each person. What works for one child, won’t for another. Similarly - you have to find ways to relate to them that are important to 𝐘𝐎𝐔 too. That brings true connection. You don’t have to love it or be great at it 𝟏𝟎𝟎% of the time. You accept that you can’t be perfect with your partner or friends - so why do you expect you should be the same with your kids. Whatever they don’t get from you they will find, so BREATHE. Kids process things 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐲, so give them (and yourself) a moment after you ask a question.
