Es ist die Nacht vom 19. auf den 20. Juli 2012 als im Kino in Aurora die Mitternachtspremiere des neuen Batman Films "The Dark Knight Rises" läuft. Dutzende Fans strömen in die Kinos, um den Film mit als erstes zu sehen. Darunter auch ein junger Mann mit feuerroten, orangenen Haaren. Kurz nach Beginn der Vorstellung verlässt er den Saal, auf Grund eines Telefonats durch den Notausgang. Als er zehn Minuten später zurück kehrt, trägt er eine Gasmaske und hält mehrere Waffen in seinen Händen. Und plötzlich eröffnet er das Feuer auf die übrigen Kinogäste...
