Alternative assessments are designed to measure higher-order thinking skills and real-world application of knowledge, and can take various forms such as portfolios, projects, presentations, and peer assessments tasks.  We also discussed formative assessment, which involves ongoing evaluation of student learning which can take on many forms, such as quick checks for understanding, peer feedback, and self-assessment, All these can be a powerful tool for improving student learning. Dr F Scott Feil is a husband, a father, a physical therapist, a professor, and most recently an Amazon best-selling author. F Scott is also a business coach and mentor despite starting his journey as an English major before landing as a Physical Therapist. He is one of the creators and co-hosts of the Healthcare Education Transformation Podcast which aims to break down the silos between healthcare professions in an attempt to find best practices in teaching and learning throughout healthcare academia. He also hosts the Professors of Profit Podcast where he interviews healthcare professionals about their side gigs and side hustles. His goal is to help at least 222 professors (one from every PT School at the time of publication of his book) and clinicians pay off their student loans quicker and/or more efficiently by using multiple revenue streams.
