#99 - From Debt Collector to Buyer's Agent: Lauren Jone's Path to Property Success

from BAI Show · host Ben Handler

Lauren Jones tells Buyer’s Agent Institute founder Ben Handler of how serendipity, frustration and tenacity took her from debt collector to mortgage broker and, eventually, buyer’s agent. “I was happy writing deals with a mortgage broker for a little while but the number one thing that frustrated me was clients,” she says. “You’d send them out with their pre-approval and they’d come back with a crap property. There was nothing you could do.” Desperate to advise clients on the right properties to buy, Lauren looked to property podcasts for inspiration and it wasn’t long before she found what she was looking for. “I started emailing three companies whose podcasts I’d heard. I just said ‘Hey, I love the content you’re producing. I’m looking for a job and would love to chat.’ One of them actually emailed me back and told me they don’t have any mortgage brokers but would I like to become a buyer’s agent associate?” she explains. The buying agent bug bit hard and, today, Lauren owns her own agency, LJBA. She credits her financial experience from debt collection and mortgage broking with the ability to have difficult conversations with her clients. “We have to tell people to forget everything they’ve learned from the content they get sucked into on the internet and work with us to find the right property for them,” she says. Lauren’s company attracts a younger demographic, most of whom are first-time buyers. She prides herself on guiding them through the mess of information on the web and a market that is short on stock. Want to transition into real estate, where you can either work in a great team or potentially become your own boss? Buyer’s Agent Institute can show you how.
