畫說漢字/圖解《說文解字》/1000個漢字的故事/東漢許慎原著百（bǎi）“百”字本义指代数字，即“十个十为一百”。该字是一个指事字。在甲骨文中，“百”字上边为一横画，下边是“白”字。这里，一横画为指事符号，也好与“白”区别开来。后来，“百”字引申为众多，如“百战不殆”，这里的“百”就不为确数，而是指多数。再如“百姓”，指的是广大的人民。（十个十是一百，“数以百计”才算够得着“多”的初级标准。）
