Deborah has a PhD in Intercultural Communication from Howard University. She is an artist and freelance writer. Her many varied occupations include teaching piano, copyediting, translating, designing gardens, working on radio documentaries and a kids#39; educational TV series, and teaching communication classes to outpatient adults (i.e., formerly hospitalized) with emotional and mental illnesses. She was a professor of communication, media and culture for 20 years and a Department Chair for seven years.
