A Beautiful Path to Light - Fr. Micah - July 11, 2021

In today’s Gospel reading taken from Matthew 6:22-33 our Lord tell us that the eye is the lamp of the body. The eye that is spoken of here is not entirely that which gives us sight but rather that inner perception of our mind and its ability to reflect. Father Micah shares with us, from the teachings of Saint Nicholas Cabasilas, the beautiful path to a life filled with peace, prayer and light. This teaching states that what we reflect on, we will desire and this desire will lead us into action. If we reflect on the good things that God has given us each moment of the day, our hearts will overflow with gratitude. As Orthodox Christians we should reflect on the teachings of Christ, Icons and prayer. Prayer can be the most difficult but the most essential, because in prayer, we reflect on Christ Himself. We do not need to make long petitions, but rather, we can pray a little, a lot. The Fathers of the Church also tell us that with training we can direct what we look upon, therefore filling our senses, the gates into our hearts, with good things.
