A belt

from Daily Picture · host Stephanie Hawkins

I saw an image of a belt today which I have linked to bible verses relating to the "girding of loins". To gird is to wear the equivalent of a belt around your waist and in biblical times loins were girded when the loose flowing parts of long robes were literally tucked into a belt to promote greater freedom of leg movement. The expression 'Girding ones loins' is now used figuratively for being prepared for hard work or a difficult or stressful situation. Around seven hundred years before Jesus was born the prophet Isaiah prophesied the arrival of Jesus on this earth with the belt of righteousness and the sash of faithfulness around his waist (Isaiah 11:5). Apostle Paul also described the armour of God we can wear, the first being the Belt of Truth (Ephesians 6:14). With that belt we can apply all the other armour, whilst standing up tall and strong against the enemy because we know Jesus is righteous and faithful on our behalf
