A bucket of gasoline/petrol and a bucket of water
from Daily Picture · host Stephanie Hawkins
First thing this morning I read an inspiring imagery which I would love to share as today's Daily Picture. It was of two buckets, one filled with gasoline/petrol and the other with water. These represented the two choices we have when we hear gossip, whether true or not. If we really know how much God loves us, we will find it much easier to love others; in fact, we will also find ourselves wanting to extend love to others, even those who don't love us and those who may seem unlovable. The bucket of petrol represents what we do to ignite the gossip and spread it, even with excitement in sharing it. Water represents us stopping the gossip, at us at least. We can't judge others' hearts and maybe they have even turned to God to say a genuine sorry and with a true desire to change. Meanwhile, we could have chosen to inflame the situation and make people feel ill of them. "Above all, love each other deeply, as love covers a multitude of sins" (1 Peter 4:8). God has extended that deep love, with mercy and grace, towards us.
