A Case Almost Too Gruesome To Mention_ Mary Vincent

In 1978, 15-year-old Mary Vincent accepted a ride from a stranger named Lawrence Singleton. He raped her, severed both her arms with a hatchet, and threw her into a ravine to die. Bleeding and near death, she packed her wounds with mud to stop the bleeding, climbed a 30-foot cliff, and flagged down a passing car. She survived and later identified Singleton in court. He was sentenced to 14 years but served only eight, and went on to murder another woman. Mary survived and rebuilt her life, becoming an artist and advocate for justice reform.
