In 1965, Charles M. Shulz, along with jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi and director Bill Melendez, threw together a Christmas special. Done over the timeframe of 6 months, with a shoestring budget, child actors, and the ominous hate from producers and the network that anything further would be a disaster, they birthed A Charlie Brown Christmas. As anyone who now knows, this was anything BUT a disaster. Winning an Emmy and a Peabody Award, as well as cementing “Lucy and Linus” as the theme song for the Peanuts specials, this has been perhaps one of the most successful Christmas specials of all time.
