A CHAT WITH: Anwar Uddin

from GasCast - Bristol Rovers Podcast · host GasCast - Bristol Rovers Podcast

Duke is joined Anwar Uddin to talk about his fascinating and varied career, both past and present. From playing youth football for West Ham with the likes of Rio Ferdinand, he then moved to Sheffield Wednesday which ended prematurely after the collapse of ITV Digital left Wednesday in financial trouble. Wednesday's loss was Rovers gain as Anwar made the journey to North Bristol. This was after John Still used his persuasive skills to assure Anwar that Rovers were heading in a better direction than *checks notes* Swansea City. Anwar got the first team football he so craved at Rovers and loved his time in the city, however a horrific injury meant his Rovers career was cut short after only 19 league appearances. He shares tales of how he got involved in the local community whilst on the side-lines and tells us about his times rooming with The Latvian. We look at his time at Dag & Redbridge where he captained the side and was involved in two promotions - including reaching League One on a shoestring budget. This was under the stewardship of John Still, who Anwar cites as being a pivotal reason for linking up with Dagenham.Anwar discusses his current role with the Fans For Diversity campaign and why he believes that football has the power to unify all walks of life. He also shares his thoughts on the potential at Rovers to get more fans through the turnstiles. There's also chat about the Black Lives Matter campaign and whilst 'taking the knee' is important, it doesn't go far enough. Finally there's talk about his assistant manager role at Aldershot Town and how he/they managed to secure the services of *checks notes again* Ross McCormack.Support the showProudly sponsored by: https://theoakfieldgroup.co.uk
