A Christmas Moment - Friday January 2nd 2026

from A Moment to Pause - a short daily Christmas reflection · host The Oblates

Good morning and welcome to our daily reflection on Friday January 2nd 2026. My name is Pat Hughes and we start with the sign of the cross: in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Today’s Gospel is John 1: 19-28. This passage details the questioning of John the Baptist by Jewish officials from Jerusalem. Notice John, though denying he is neither the Messiah nor Elijah, never gives his name just eventually states ‘ I am a voice crying in the wilderness, preparing the way of the Lord.’ What an example to us, challenging us to find our own identity in Christ , not in self-importance.. Our true identity and purpose are found in knowing Christ and making him known by our words, actions and life choices.  The challenge may be for us to trust that we are doing God’s will simply by trying to be people who strive to love others and work for justice in our world. Our efforts may seem small in the bigger scheme of life; however, small acts of love, kindness, and generosity are great gifts that are needed every day in our world.  We simply have to trust that God is at work in us. Let us pray that  God is working through us in the many acts of kindness and love we may do each day. We may not be a star.  However, each and every one of us has the ability to shine light on our world! May we do so every day! Thank you for joining us. Amen.
