A Christmas Moment - Sunday January 4th 2026

from A Moment to Pause - a short daily Christmas reflection · host The Oblates

Good morning and welcome to your daily moment of pause, reflection on prayer.  Pat Hughes speaking. Welcome to Sunday 4th January and the gospel of the Magi Matthew2:1-12 “Where is the baby born to be the King of the Jews? We saw his star when it came up in the east ,and we have come to worship him.” God meets people where they are and so for the astrologers he sent a new star. The wonder is the magi following the star as prophesied to simply go and worship. Also significant are the gifts brought for the Christ child:gold for a king, frankincense for priesthood, myrrh as embalming oil to signify the eventual death and sacrifice for our sin. “Then they returned to their country by another road.” When we encounter Jesus we are changed and inevitably move to a different road. Ask yourself ‘Is Jesus first in your life?’ Let us pray that we bring our own gifts of love, service and talents to Him and that as we travel through this new year, that God, who created the stars, and gave us his only son, will bless us and keep us. May the Lord’s face shine on us with grace and mercy and may the Lord look upon us with favour and give us peace and joy.Amen. Thank you for joining us.
