A Common Thing - Pastor Matt Krachunis - Hebrews 10:26-39

from Faith and Victory Church Auburn Sermons · host Faith and Victory Church

In “A Common Thing,” Pastor Matt Krachunis teaches from Hebrews 10:26–39, giving a sober warning about drifting from Christ and treating the covenant as common. Hebrews has already shown that Jesus is better than the old covenant system, the priesthood, and every sacrifice that came before Him. Because of that, believers must not go back, draw back, or look for another way to be made right with God. Pastor Matt explains that the warning about willful sin in Hebrews 10 is not meant to say that a struggling Christian can never be forgiven. The deeper warning is about deliberately rejecting the New Covenant after receiving the knowledge of the truth. If someone walks away from Christ, there is no other sacrifice for sin. Jesus is the only Savior, the only High Priest, and the only remedy for sin. The sermon also warns that sin is never harmless. Unchecked sin, isolation, and shrinking affection for Christ can harden the heart and lead people away from Him. The answer is not panic, self-reliance, or trying to fix ourselves apart from God. The answer is perseverance: keep going back to the cross, keep repenting, keep trusting Christ, and keep holding fast. Pastor Matt calls the church to remember that Jesus is not common. His blood is not common. His grace is not common. His church is not common. We are not those who draw back to destruction, but those who believe to the saving of the soul.
