AL amyloidosis is a rare disorder in which there is a buildup of an abnormal protein called amyloid. Amyloid is typically produced in the bone marrow, but can be deposited in any tissue or organ causing the organ not to function properly. It is often hard to diagnose because the signs and symptoms can be the same as those of more common diseases and it is important to diagnosis as early as possible so that further organ damage is prevented.
