A conversation with Just Call Me Willis

from Drawing South · host Drawing South

@mikewindyart can't remember how he started following @_traplanta_ but suffice it to say he's so glad he did. Thanks to a clumsy first attempt at an assignment(we've all had those, but most of us won't admit it) Willis leaned into photographing the communities he's known throughout his life as an Atlanta native and let's the rest of us in on what we won't see at the Trap Museum, which for him is authenticity and respect of and for the people in those communities. He reads in great length to get the right caption for each image and sometimes takes him many months until he feels like he gets it right. We talk about the strategies and skills he acquired in his 20 years serving in the US military and how they are serving him well in his own art career. PLEASE give this episode a listen and dive into Willis' work and read other interviews and articles @photobookmagazine @motherjonesmag @shoutoutatlantaofficial#traplanta #streetphotography #justcallmewillisphotography #justcallmewillis #drawingsouth #drawingsouthpodcast #mikewindypodcastTile Art: from Just Call Me Willis @_traplanta_ February 20,2025 post
