MaryEllen is known for her work in the areas of teacher professional learning, reading intervention, disciplinary literacy, and effective instruction for multilingual learners. She is the author or co-author of over 70 articles and chapters and 17 books about literacy instruction, and is co-developer and co-author of the book series on the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol or SIOP Model, an empirically validated, instructional framework for teaching multilingual learners. MaryEllen is a 2017 inductee into the Reading Hall of Fame.
