His episode focuses on work related to his 2017 co-authored book Beyond Teaching about Climate Change to Adolescents: Reading, Writing, and Making a Difference. Dr. Beach has authored or co-authored more than 150 articles and book chapters and authored, co-authored, or edited 30 books, including two books currently in press. Drawing on Students’ Worlds in the ELA Classroom: Toward Critical Engagement and Deep Learning  and Teaching to Exceed State English Language Arts Standards will both soon be available. Rick has served as President of the Literacy Research Association, President of the National Conference on Research in English, and Chair of the Board of Trustees for The Research Foundation of the National Council of Teachers of English. Rick was recently named winner of the 2022 John J. Gumperz Memorial Award for Distinguished Lifetime Scholarship by the Language and Social Processes Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association.
