Travis Clardy, Republican candidate for Speaker of the Texas House, moderated by Texas Tribune co-founder and CEO Evan Smith.Clardy, R-Nacogdoches, was the fourth Republican candidate to throw his hat in the ring to be the next Speaker of the Texas House when he filed on Aug. 20. There are now seven candidates in the running to succeed retiring House Speaker Joe Straus. Now in his third term, Rep. Clardy served as Vice Chair of the Local and Consent Calendars Committee during the 85th Legislative Session, as well as serving on the Higher Education and Energy Resource Committees. Clardy is a partner with the law firm Kelly Hart & Hallman, has over 30 years of experience in civil litigation and is licensed to practice law before all state and federal courts in Texas, as well as the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
