A Costly Census

from Northstar Church Blacksburg · host Darrell Cook

Guest speaker, Darrell Cook (BCM Director at Virginia Tech), takes us through chapter 21 of 1 Chronicles. We see that David, in pride, wanted to count and see the number of his kingdom. God does not like pride and David knew this and immediately repented. David was given three different options as consequence for this sin; three years of famine, three years at the sword of enemy, three days of the Sword of the Lord. David was still a 'man after God's own heart' and Darrell tells us that even though we may not know or be able to give a definition to that, we can see that David consistently wants what God wants, he knew God and trusted God's mercy and so he chose to deal with God, not an enemy or famine. He chose to 'fall on the mercy of God' and because of this choice God spared Jerusalem from being destroyed.
