We'll Keep The Ghostlight On For You. We are a group of actors, playwrights, and directors who meet once a week to read scripts together. We share readings, discussions, and interviews through our podcast available on Spotify, Google Podcasts, Breaker, Radio Public. Visit our show page at: https://anchor.fm/qplayers and follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/QuarantinePlayers Tonight we are reading a classic that is rarely performed. Carlo Goldoni's A Curious Mishap is a fantastic period comedy, relying on the common theme of mistaken identity, the machinations of love, and delightful wordplay to put the audience into a good mood. Goldoni's more known work is a Servant of Two Masters, was an 18th-century Italian writer who more than anything wanted to be Moliere. Goldoni eventually left Italy and the historic Commedia dell'arte style to create this new work. Our story takes place in the Hauge, with dutch merchants and French prisoners of war. The Plot: The daughter of a rich Dutch merchant looks longingly past her scheming father to her French lieutenant suitor. As the lovers hatch a plan to trap the merchant with his own words, their servants - a pair of quick-witted schemers themselves - realize they have fallen madly in love with each other. Masters and servants alike are caught in their own elaborate designs, and one misunderstanding leads to another and another until no one is quite sure what or whom to believe. Passion and pretense collide in this clever, fast-paced look at how one curious mishap turns all of their lives upside down. Our Cast Philibert, a rich Dutch merchant. (Robert Beard) Giannina, his daughter. (Heather Plank) Marianna, Mademoiselle Giannina's servant.(Lori Brooks) Riccardo, a broker. (Read by Judy Lewis) Costanza, his daughter. (Tammy Peters ) De la Cotterie, a French lieutenant. (Ian Mead Moore ) Gascoigne, De la Cotterie's servant. (Stephen Foster) Stage Direction (Judy Lewis)
