Tate City, GA - between 2.5 hours and 3.5 hours from Atlanta, depending on your path.  Located in Towns County, north of Tiger, east of Hiawassee and west of Dillard, Tate City is about as close to North Carolina as you can get and the Tate City Road will take you right into North Carolina.  The 14 mile road runs along the Tallulah River with beautiful views along your way.  Keep in mind, the road is mostly dirt, one way in & one way out and not a lot of space when you meet another car.  Be on the look out for hikers and bears!
