A dead log

from Daily Picture · host Stephanie Hawkins

Today I saw a large dead log, totally disconnected from its stump and roots. However, when there is no life, God can miraculously revive. God creates. In the Old Testament Book of Numbers (chapters 16 and 17), we read of a rebellion against Moses and his brother Aaron, inflamed by a man who was jealous of their leadership. God insisted that a leader of each of the 12 tribes of Israel lay their staff, a dead stick, which represented authority in their tribe, in front of the ark of the covenant law, overnight. This is where the presence of God resided and He would show who He was appointing to lead the tribes of Israel. The next morning, only Aaron's staff had sprung to life, from initial sprouts, buds, blossoms to mature ripe almonds, representing an entire agricultural life cycle overnight. In God's presence, growth can be accelerated and creation take place. Jesus's first miracle on earth, as man, was the changing of water into wine at the Wedding in Cana. The transformation occurred from the time that it took for the servants to fill the large stone jars with water and then pour it out for the guests. Let us believe God for miracles. Still using an agricultural analogy, we gentiles, non Jews, are grafted into the 12 tribes of Israel to receive the promises He gave to Abraham (see Romans 11:17-24). Jesus tells us, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit. Apart from me you can do nothing" (John 15:5).
