A Debt With No Due Date | Cozy Afternoon Walk: Romans (S1), Ep.53
from Cozy Afternoon Walk: A Daily Devotional · host Fully Alive
Welcome to Cozy Afternoon Walk — a short pause in your day to sit with Scripture, one verse at a time.Today's passage: Romans 13:8-10"Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, 'You shall not commit adultery,' 'You shall not murder,' 'You shall not steal,' 'You shall not covet,' and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law." (NIV)Most debts are meant to be closed. You pay them off, and you're done. But Paul points to one debt he tells us never to fully repay — the debt of love. It isn't only a gift from above; it's something we already owe each other, passed down through the people who carried us here. Six hundred commandments collapse into a single line: love your neighbor as yourself — the same line Jesus once used to sum up the whole law. Today, we look at what it means to keep that one debt open, on purpose, for the rest of our lives. This episode is part of our season through Romans.
