A deeply disturbing case that has sparked outrage returns to court today. A 47-year-old Boschkop man is facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly lying about his HIV status and intentionally infecting his girlfriend. Prosecutors say he falsely claimed to be HIV negative, only admitting the truth after she discovered antiretroviral medication in his possession. The woman has since tested HIV positive, and it's further alleged that the accused told her he infected her on purpose because he didn't want her to be with anyone else. The case raises difficult legal, medical and ethical questions about disclosure, consent and accountability. Guest: Dr Jillian Gardner is a Senior Lecturer in Bioethics and Health Law and Head of the MSc (Med) and PhD by Dissertation Programmes at the Steve Biko Centre for Bioethics, University of the Witwatersrand Guest: Siraaj Khan, Attorney of the High Court and Lecturer at the Steve Biko Centre for Bioethics at Wits University
