Join me for a look at the life of Engelhart and Helen Ostby, father-and-daughter jewelers who boarded Titanic in First Class. Until recently, I had no idea that such a crucial figure in Edwardian fashion and design was a passenger or that he trained his daughter in the business by traversing Europe, a fairly modern and feminist concept. The Ostby story is one of immigration, one of innovation, and their rings remain part of our aesthetic today.
