A Dream by Edgar Allan Poe: Lost Joy, Memory & a Light in the Darkness

A vanished happiness returns in sleep, offering a lonely speaker more comfort than the waking world. Edgar Allan Poe’s “A Dream” is a brief poem about lost joy, memory and the distant light that can guide someone through darkness. This atmospheric reading reveals a quieter side of Poe: grief and hope share the same image, and the dream matters precisely because it cannot last. For listeners drawn to Gothic poetry and melancholy rather than a monster or a murder, this short episode makes room for the feeling that the past can be both painful and precious.
