A (Fill In The Blank) Person - How We Think About Compassion

How do you think about Jesus? Do you like him? What might happen if you consider him for his historical merits? Not as a religious teacher, but as a person. What kind of person was he? What do his historical fingerprints tell us about who he was and what mattered to him? For the next three weeks at Narrate, we're inviting you to suspend your thoughts about Jesus as a religious figure and instead consider his historical impact. Rather than talk about whether or not he was God, we want to take a long look at the way he impacted the way we think about people, women, and religion in general. We want to ask: if you remove Jesus' impact from world history, what happens? In the end, our hope is to cast light on Jesus as a freaking amazing person. To see him through a historical lens and thus to rethink his value within our twenty-first century world. We plan to explore how his ideas shaped the way we think about the value of individual people, the value of women, and the value (or lack thereof) of religion. Like you, we aren't interested in religious institutions or systems, but we're fascinated by what we can learn from the person of Jesus. How has Jesus affected the way we think about compassion?
