A Florida Christmas – Week 4 | Christmas Eve
from Thrive Community Church · host John Roth
A holiday that feels too warm, too bright, and yet somehow too quiet — that’s the tension at the heart of this Christmas message. It names the darkness many of us live in right now: anxiety, addiction, political and global violence, grief and a gnawing sense that life is thinner than it should be. The sermon refuses to smooth over that pain or paste tinsel on it; it calls out the reality that Christmas wasn’t first dreamed up for the comfortable, but for people walking in real darkness. The message turns to Isaiah’s ancient promise: light shines where it’s needed most. Three simple moves guide the listener — people walking in darkness, a great light appearing, and a child given to us — to show a God who enters weakness, understands suffering, and offers himself as a gift we must receive. Expect honest comfort, a clear challenge to pride, and an invitation to imagine what it means for divinity to be vulnerably present in our lives now.
