A “Foxy” Edition of RRR #1223 Dec. 24, 2023

from Rapidly Rotating Records · host Glenn Robison

Catalina Island Fox Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t not tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s. Do you know what this cute little animal is? It’s scientific name is urocyon littoralis catalinae, more commonly known as the Catalina Island Fox. So why post a picture of a fox on a vintage music radio show site? Well, because we’ll be playing a set of rapidly rotating records about foxes in the fourth segment of the show. But also to bring attention to the fact that the Catalina Island Fox is threatened with extinction. Lots of dedicated people are working hard to make sure that not only doesn’t that happen, but that the species can once again thrive. In other segments, we’ll explore the differences between basements and cellars (and you thought they were the same!), we’ll celebrate Walter Rolfe’s birthday, and as a public service, point out a new law taking effect on January 1 here in California. We’ll also tell you all about a “peach” of an offer about a fundraiser by the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra for their ambitious 15th anniversary CD and video project. I’ll tell you about it in the show, but more information is available here. There’s lots of great music and interesting information, so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and prepare to be transported back to a different–and we think better–musical era.
