A heart ages Who do I turn to, and what would I say? This is best kept inside Might be broke but I got pride See what can happen when your heart’s in play? Look for the signs that you’re headed straight A man looking for curves Surely gets what he deserves Remain steady even when it’s going great Deviations to your plan, make you go into a skid Upside down hanging by your belt Thinking about everything you felt And you wonder why the hell you did what you did As I said before tell me, just who would you tell? When your close friends go Gets kind of hard you know Living in your mind, in a silent self-made hell Friends like all of your shit on the social media sites Some you see- “How’s it going?” You say “Great, you?” never knowing Are they just like you, home to more restless nights? “So quit looking for it, wait for it to find you” People offering those words Are generally happy love birds While you install flashing lights, do anything you can do You’ve been patient, like letting a steak rest 10 minutes but now You’re ravenous, ready to pounce You could eat up a 96 ounce Steak, potatoes, and all it is definitely time to chow But love never seems to want to hang It seems to come and go One night’s a little hard to know I was ready for more, but I guess she wasn’t, dang So like I said way back at the beginning Before you call me a tramp I’m busy trying to revamp And get somewhere better than my life of sinning I’m looking for the ending but I gotta get a start Been tricked, teased and slapped But I just really want to get wrapped In the love of my life, and have her live in my heart A heart ages Words of sages Timeless advice flows through your ears A heart ages Dog-eared pages An empty room magnifies your fears A heart ages But a fire rages Lessons learned will take you through the years For this heart ages but it wears it well Long will we have memories to tell As the essence of my mother flows through my veins Quiet mouths and open minds as she explains I’m overcome with calm, and all seems right A heart ages, I just pray it’s with you every night Tim Windisch 12/9/19
