PROPHECY OF A MESSIAH a) Prophecy of a Messiah to come – Isaiah 9:6-7, Deut 18:17-19. b) Daniel 9:25-27 gives the timeline for when the Messiah would come. i. The commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem – Neh 2:4-6 ii. Seven weeks (49years) – Rebuilding the city – Neh 12:27. iii. Threescore and two weeks shall messiah be cut off (434years) - John 19:30 iv. One week (7years) – Matt 24:21, c) The weeks = 7 years. 70 weeks = 490. 483 from Nehemiah until Jesus came. d) People talk about a 400 year gap between Malachi and John the Baptist, but Israel could’ve known. 2. JESUS PROPHESIED LIFE a) Jesus whole life was prophesied – Luke 24:44 b) Jesus life fulfilled things in the law, prophets, and Psalms – 39 books to Israel – Matt 5:17. c) Many prophecies fulfilled by Jesus proving he was the Christ – MMLJ “as it is written” “that it might be fulfilled” d) A messenger comes before him – Isa 40:3, Mal 3:1, Luke 1:76 - Matt 3:1-3, 11:7-10. e) His lineage was prophesied- 2Sam 7:12, Psa 132:11, Jer 23:5 – Matt 1:1, Luke 3:23-31. f) His place of birth was prophesied – Micah 5:2, 1Sam 17:58, 20:6, Isa 11:1 – Luke 2:4. g) His virgin mother – Isa 7:14 – Matt 1:21-25. h) His going to Egypt as a child – Num 24:7-8, Hos 11:1, Jer 31:15 – Matt 2:13-18 i) His baptism was prophesied – Psalms 2:7, Isa 11:2, 42:1 – Matt 3:13-17 j) His miracles and healings – Isa 53:4 – Matt 8:16-17, 9:10-13, Hos 6:6. k) Where he traveled – Isa 9:1-2, Matt 4:12-16.
