A History of Violent Strikes

from Journey to the Fringe

There's a funny thing about history. It's subjective, some would say written by the winners. Well that probably means there's some things that happened that are fringe. Legally that means we can cover it (Law of Fringe RSBC 1498. c 3000)! The spot where this is most relevant for this episode is workers strikes. They get bloody, trains get tipped, roundhouses get... well nothing actually happens to the roundhouses but I think the point got across. Today we are going to look at three historical strikes that occurred in the US:The Great Railroad strike of 1877The Pullman strike of 1894The Battle of Blair Mountain 1921I don't want to spoil too much but we sure don't strike like they used to. Grab a picket sign, join a sit in and give this episode a listen. In the intro we discussed the ongoing legal battle engulfing Julian Assange. Prepare yourself for the banal bureaucracy that is the legal system (there's violence after if you can get through it!)Don't forget to follow and listen to any other episodes in our catalogue that may pique your interest. If you want to hear us talk about a specific topic be sure to send us an email a [email protected] and you can catch us live on Twitch every Sunday at 8:30 PM PST, also please give our twitch a follow as we are pushing for affiliate status (https://www.twitch.tv/journeytothefringe).
