A large arrow
from Daily Picture · host Stephanie Hawkins
Today I saw an imaginary image of a large arrow. This has brought to mind an incident recounted in the Old Testament (2 Kings 13:14-19) in which Prophet Elisha advises King Jehoash to shoot an arrow through a window, in the direction of his enemy. In so doing, Elisha puts his hand on the king's, representing God's power and direction in the battle ahead, and declared, " The LORD"s arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Aram! You will completely destroy the Arameans at Aphek". He also instructs King Jehoash to strike the ground with the arrows (indicating an acknowledgement of the fulfillment of the prophetic word of victory). Elisha was angry with the King as he only hit the ground 3 times; this thus indicated only a half hearted acknowledgement, so there would not be complete annihilation of the enemy. Can you see how we can apply this to our life, with our enemies being anything that destroys our peace and our belief in God's direction and power? Are we just being half hearted in our acknowledgement of victory through God? There could be any number of reasons for this, such as feeling fearful in playing our part, a general apathy, simply operating in a routine or ritualistic manner, an inability to believe in God's complete victory, and maybe not wanting to look foolish or ridiculous. God wants us to face our metaphorical enemies, shooting the proverbial arrows with Him, believing, with zeal and commitment, in His complete victory.
