In which Captain Dalgetty, detained under a sort of courteous captivity at Sir Duncan Campbell’s castle, observes the sombre household marked by mourning and restrained conversation, whilst pondering military fortifications and enduring formal hospitality. With the morrow devoted to solemn remembrance, he departs early under close guard, journeying through wild Highland scenery to the melancholy scene awaiting him at Inverary.
