A Lighthouse in the Darkness // Chronicles
from Heritage Baptist Church Hosted by Heritage Baptist Church
A Lighthouse in the Darkness | The Book of Hope (1 & 2 Chronicles) Many people view the books of 1 and 2 Chronicles as a dry recap of Israel's history—the place "where Bible reading plans go to die." But when viewed through the lens of God's overarching plan, Chronicles transforms into a magnificent lighthouse of hope and a beacon of grace in stormy waters. In this sermon, we walk through the entirety of 1 and 2 Chronicles, exploring how history is truly theology working out in time, space, and people. While the books of Kings often focus on covenant failure and judgment, Chronicles highlights covenant continuity, mercy, and the enduring line of David. 📌 Key Takeaways From This Sermon: The Power of Humility: Exploring the central heart of Chronicles in 2 Chronicles 20:12—“We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” No Pit is Too Deep: A look at King Manasseh, a deeply wicked king who humbled himself in distress and experienced the extravagant, forgiving grace of God. The Threshing Floor & Mount Moriah: Discover why God stopped His plague of judgment at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, and how this exact location points directly to the substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the ultimate Davidic King. If you've ever struggled to see the beauty or relevance of the Old Testament historical books, this overview will equip you with the themes and understanding needed to make your personal reading deeply enjoyable and enlightening.
