A Moment To Pause: Lent - Monday 2nd March 2026 #lent #prayer #mercy
from A Moment to Pause - a short daily Christmas reflection · host The Oblates
Good Morning. Thank you for joining all of the Oblate Family today for our time of reflection and prayer during Lent with Padraig Corcoran, Director of Oblate Youth Ministry. Jesus calls His followers into a way of life that reflects the very heart of God: “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” Mercy is not presented as optional or occasional — it is the defining characteristic of those who belong to God’s kingdom. Jesus Christ teaches about love for enemies, forgiveness, generosity, and humility. Mercy, then, is more than kindness; it is a compassion toward those who may not deserve it. It reflects how God treats us. “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” Jesus is not forbidding discernment, but He is warning against a harsh spirit. The measure we use toward others often reveals the condition of our own hearts. When we judge with superiority or condemn without compassion, we forget how deeply we ourselves rely on grace. This passage challenges us to ask: Do I reflect God’s mercy in how I treat others? Am I quick to criticize, or quick to forgive? Is my life marked by generosity of spirit and action? In the end, Luke reminds us that mercy multiplies. What we pour out — whether judgment or grace — has a way of returning to us. The invitation is clear: choose mercy. Thanks for joining us this morning.
