A Moment To Pause: Lent - Saturday 28th February 2026
from A Moment to Pause - a short daily Christmas reflection · host The Oblates
Good Morning. Thank you for joining all of the Oblate Family today for our time of reflection and prayer during Lent with Pat Hughes. Hello and welcome to Saturday’s reflection on the gospel reading from Matthew 5:43-48 “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you “ and “ You must be perfect- just as your Father in heaven is perfect” . These are God’s commands. They are simply put ; but are we left alone to carry them out? Thankfully not! We have the Holy Spirit to help us and we are given God’s Grace , if we pray for it. Lord you challenge us to move beyond “ I’ll be nice if you are” and to adopt a heavenly, transformative, and unconditional approach to all people including those that oppose us. The command to be “as perfect as our Heavenly Father is “ , is not to have sinless perfection, but to be complete, mature and undivided in love. Let us pray: Lord Jesus, your love brings freedom and pardon. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and set my heart ablaze with your love that nothing may make me lose my temper, ruffle my peace, take away my joy, nor make me bitter towards anyone.” Thank you for joining the Oblates in prayer this morning.
