A Moment To Pause: Lent - Thursday 5th March 2026 #lent #worldbookday #WBD2026

from A Moment to Pause - a short daily Christmas reflection · host The Oblates

Good morning and thank you for joining all of the Oblate Family today for our time of reflection and prayer during Lent with Padraig Corcoran, Director of Oblate Youth Ministry for today's short 90 second podcast on World Book Day 2026.  Jesus Christ tells of the rich man who ignored the poor Lazarus at his gate. His sin was not cruelty in action, but indifference in comfort. He saw suffering every day, yet remained unmoved. On World Book Day, this Gospel takes on a special meaning. The rich man is told that his brothers “have Moses and the prophets; let them listen to them.” In other words, they already have the Word. The Scriptures were available, but not truly received. Having access to the book was not enough — its message had to shape the heart. World Book Day celebrates the power of reading to inform and transform. As people of faith, we are reminded that the greatest story ever told is not meant to sit on a shelf. God’s Word invites us to see differently, to notice the Lazarus at our gate, and to act with compassion. Books can entertain us, educate us, and inspire us — but the Word of God calls us to conversion. The question this Gospel leaves us with is simple: Are we merely readers of the story, or are we living it? Because of Jesus we have the opportunity to be a part of the never-ending story. #lent #worldbookday #WBD2026 #greateststoryevertold #books #neverendingstory
