A Moment To Pause: Monday 12th January 2026

from A Moment to Pause - a short daily Christmas reflection · host The Oblates

Today we join Joseph O'Connell for our A Moment To Pause Podcast. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Welcome to our reflection today. The reflection is taken from the Gospel of Mark 1: 14 to 20. Jesus begins with a simple but life challenging message. The time is fulfilled, the kingdom of God is at hand. He doesn't wait for perfect people of perfect conditions. He walks along the shore into ordinary working lives and calls fishermen exactly like he does to us. What's striking is their response. Simon, Andrew, James and John don't ask for guarantees or explanations. They leave their nets, security, identity and plans and follow him. This isn't reckless abandonment. It's trust. Mark shows us that God's call often comes in the middle of everyday life, not in dramatic moments. The question for us is simple but challenging: What nets are we holding on to that stop us from following more freely? Jesus still calls today not to comfort, but into transformation and to become fishers of people and love and hope.   Thank you for joining us today for our morning prayer. May the Lord bless us, look after us and take care of us. And may Mary, the Mother of God, pray with us and for us. Amen.
