A Moment To Pause: Sunday 18th January 2026

from A Moment to Pause - a short daily Christmas reflection · host The Oblates

Today we join Joseph O’Connell for our A Moment To Pause Podcast during Ordinary Time. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Our gospel reflection today comes from the Gospel of John 1: 29 to 34. Most people think the baptism of Jesus is just a quiet moment in the Jordan. A gentle scene Jesus standing in the river, John the Baptist pouring water. A dove in the sky. Beautiful, yes. But simple. No. The baptism of the Lord is one of the most explosive moments in the entire Bible. It is the moment the old covenant hands over the mission to the New Covenant. The moment heaven breaks its silence. The moment Jesus steps publicly into his mission. The moment the Trinity appears fully revealed. It is not a peaceful river story. It's the announcement of war against sin, death, and the kingdom of darkness. Let us pray to the Mother of God that we may be protected, loved, and cared for by the Holy Spirit and the angels and saints in heaven. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Thank you for sharing these moments with us. #DailyBiblePodcast #DailyScriptureReadings #Bibleinaminute
