A Moment To Pause: Wednesday 14th January 2026 - Ordinary Time

from A Moment to Pause - a short daily Christmas reflection · host The Oblates

Today we join Joseph O’Connell for our A Moment To Pause Podcast during Ordinary Time. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.  Welcome to our reflection today. We're taking our reflection from Mark's Gospel 1:  29 to 39. Jesus stepped quietly into the ordinary space of a home where someone is sick and exhausted. He takes Simon's mother in law by the hand and raises her up. It's a simple movement, but full of compassion. Jesus does not heal always from a distance. Sometimes he comes very close. By evening, the crowds arrive with their pain, worries, depressions and sorrows and long held worries. Jesus receives them all. No one is turned away. Yet before dawn he goes off to pray by himself. Reminding us that his healing flows from deep communication and communion with his Father. This passage reassures us that Jesus meets us gently in our weakness and weariness. Whatever we're carrying, illness or our quiet sorrows, he is present, ready to lift us up and restore us to life and hope. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Thank you for being with us this morning.
