A Mother’s Heart | Beware the Burden You Carry

from Momma Theologians | Christian Motherhood Ministry · host Momma Theologians

As much as our hearts desire it, we cannot choose God for our children or ensure their obedience. We point to God and He shoulders the burden of our children’s souls – much like the line between faith and works. Our actions affirm God’s grace, but cannot achieve salvation for ourselves or others (James 2:17, Eph. 2:8-10). READ THE ENTIRE ESSAY HERE Momma Theologians Prayerful Takeaways: 1) Meditate on the spiritual metaphor of seeds and harvest in Matthew 13:1-43. How can you cultivate the soil of your children's hearts to receive the seeds you plant? 2) When you are tempted to believe your children's obedience relies on yours, read Ezekiel 18. Confess your burden to the Lord in prayer so that He can take that weight from your heart. 3) Sometimes, Christian teaching becomes a stumbling block, but God draws his disciples. Read about this promise in John 6:28-69 and pray for God to draw your children. I like to pray using Ephesians 1:17-19, 3:16-21, and Philippians 1:9-11. 4) Talk to your children in age-appropriate ways about taking ownership of their faith. You want your children to be conformed to Christ, not your beliefs, so encourage them to seek and test. For scriptural conversation starters on this topic, consider Matthew 7:7-8 and James 4:7-8a. Ask questions like: "What do you think these verses mean? What would that look like in your day-to-day life?" _____________ We are so thankful you found us here!
