A Mother’s Last Ride, a Family’s Fight for Justice- Episode 129- Christina Spicuzza

In 2022, Christina accepted a ride in the Monroeville area—never knowing it would be her last. What followed was a horrifying kidnapping and murder that devastated her family, friends, and the Pittsburgh community. In this episode, we discuss the investigation, the evidence that led authorities to Calvin Crew, and the criminal case that ultimately resulted in convictions for first-degree murder, robbery, kidnapping, gun charges, and tampering with evidence. We also examine the difficult questions surrounding Crew himself, including his history of childhood violence and neglect, his reported intellectual and social challenges, and the defense's argument that he had fallen through society's cracks. At the same time, we confront the devastating reality of Christina's final moments and the impact her death left on the people who loved her. The episode takes an especially emotional turn as we discuss Christina's family's decision to ask prosecutors not to pursue the death penalty—choosing instead life in prison without parole, in accordance with Christina's religious beliefs. We reflect on what that decision says about forgiveness, faith, justice, and the unimaginable strength required to face the person responsible for taking your loved one away.
