A Nester Accused

Originally Aired: October 28, 1938The Lone Ranger #898, "Nester Accused," a deadly confrontation between ranchers and farmers threatens to explode into a full-scale range war. When the sheriff is mysteriously shot dead after arriving to serve a warrant on Neil Brogan, a hardworking farmer known as a "nester," Neil finds himself in desperate trouble. Knowing that every cattleman in the county will blame him simply because he farms instead of ranches, Neil decides to flee. He persuades his sweetheart Kate, daughter of powerful rancher Sam Hefner, to elope with him. After overpowering Sam's hired gunhand Whitey, who was stationed to keep the young couple apart, Neil and Kate escape to the Widow Nelson's place.When the Lone Ranger and Tonto arrive at the Hefner ranch and free the bound and gagged Whitey, they quickly learn about the sheriff's death and the couple's flight. Sam Hefner, furious at his daughter's elopement with a nester, rallies his men to pursue them. Despite warnings that going after Neil could ignite a range war between cattlemen and farmers, Sam refuses to back down. The masked rider must find a way to prevent bloodshed and uncover who really killed the sheriff.
