SCRIPTURE TEXT: 1 Samuel 2:12-17, 22-36   Samuel was a child of promise, born to Hannah, a mother of fervent prayer & patient faith. Through Hannah’s dedication of her child to the Lord all Israel was blessed, for Samuel grew into an anointed prophet & patient priest of the Lord. Samuel’s story begins in the closing era of the Judges, when “everyone did what was right in their own eyes” (Judges 21:25), among corrupt clergy (1 Sam 2:12) who were blind (cf. 1 Sam 3:2) to the best interests of the people & the vision of the Lord.
