A pencil with an eraser

from Daily Picture · host Stephanie Hawkins

I saw a pencil with an eraser, reminding me that God can blot out our sins (Psalm 51:9;Isaiah 43:25, 44:22). In the Old Testament (Exodus 32:28,35) about 3000 people were killed for not trusting God and worshiping a golden calf. God also struck the people with a plague. This seems so harsh but is a poignant reminder that sin is an atrocity to God with serious adverse consequences ending in death. However, Jesus came to save us from these consequences. When the Holy Spirit came into the disciples' hearts after Jesus instructed them to wait for the Holy Spirit following his death, Apostle Peter declared the good news of the Gospel, that we are saved by Jesus's love and His good works, not ours. " ... God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah" (Acts 2:36). This time, in contrast to the approximate number of 3000 people who died for worshiping a golden calf, those who accepted Apostle Peter's message were baptised, and "about 3000 were added to their number that day" (Acts 2:41). Thst is no coincidence. The more deeply we know what we are saved from, the more grateful we will be to Jesus.
