A Place To Be: Repairing Generational Trauma with Rev. Emily McGinley

from City Church San Francisco · host City Church San Francisco

Every town or city has its version of “the other side of the tracks” – the neighborhoods where “those” (poor, ethnic/racialized, uneducated, unrefined, etc.) people live. For Jesus and his contemporaries, Samaria was that place. Filled with not-Jewish-enough people of questionable morals, for generations, Samaria was shorthand for all the things a good Jew should not aspire toward. And so, for generations, there was hardly any meaningful dialogue between the two groups that didn’t devolve into the same old slurs and insults that led to a renewal of animosity. That is, until Jesus showed up at a well in Samaria and had a different kind of conversation. - Rev.
